Investing In Human Touch, Quarterly Co

As we journey deeper into a connected age, it dawns on us that there is something missing from our online experiences. They are, in fact, rather two dimensional and shallow, lacking a human touch. We realize that, despite the incredible genius of the Internet, something has been left out. Our lives weren’t meant to be lived online, but in the old-fashioned, three-dimensional world. As we realize what the Internet isn’t, we seek ways to connect our online and offline worlds.
Founded by Zach Frechette, Quarterly Co is a company that understands this unique dilemma. Subscribers to Quarterly receive a package four times a year filled with items thoughtfully curated by respected writers, artists, entrepreneurs, and other tastemakers. It may be someone’s favorite book filled with personal annotations, a kit for making the perfect Manhattan, or basically anything you can imagine fitting into a small box.
Receiving a physical item from a person or brand that you have a relationship with online recalls the giddy anticipation of a childhood birthday gift. For me, upon opening Maria Popova’s (@brainpicker) package, reading her thoughtful letter, leafing through the pages of the beautiful book she selected covered with personal notes, thoughts, and suggestions, I was surprisingly moved. I felt a connection with Maria that transcended the boundaries of following her twitter feed. In Zach’s own words:
“Quarterly wants to recapture the romance and impact of a well-crafted package, but tie it into existing online communities in an organic way. We think there’s a hunger for analog experiences that complement digital ones, and Quarterly is poised to capitalize on that trend.”
Collaborative agrees with Zach that there is a movement afoot determined to humanize our online experiences. And we’re not the only ones. Over the Christmas holiday, Quarterly averaged a new subscriber every four minutes and crossed the $100,000 in gross sales mark in less than 12 weeks from launch.
We couldn’t be more excited to work with Zach and are proud to support Quarterly’s future.
