Why We Invested in Gumroad

“Small-in-size offerings with greater-than-large effect” -@shl
Sahil Lavingia has a work ethic, knowledge base and passion for life that I really admire.
While most people have talked about his work with Pinterest and Turntable, I found his ability to conceive, design, develop and launch Dayta, Color Stream, Crate, Rmmbr and other applications most compelling.
He gets sh*t done.
In a binary world of people who solve problems and people who create problems, Sahil is one of the most capable problem solvers I have ever met.
His talent, humility, transparency and the zest to change the world, was a no-brainer recipe for Collaborative Fund’s support.
I saved this tweet (from October 2010) when I first invested in Sahil’s then side project Little Big Things, knowing someday I’d write this very message congratulating him on launching his first company.

The potential for Gumroad is tremendous.
Much like how Kickstarter has empowered individuals to raise money.
Or Skillshare enables individuals to monetize their skills.
Or TaskRabbit allows people to supplement their income through physical labor.
Gumroad is a dead simple way for individuals to monetize their work, whether its music, art, writing or code.
I could not be more excited to work with Sahil and experience this journey together.
